Best Friends

Today while being hugged by Grace, Lily said, "We're best friends." Totally unprompted. Hoping to hear the same thing again, I asked Grace to hug Lily a few more times throughout the day and sure enough each time Lily said, "We're best friends." I caught one of those very quick moments on video but she says it at the very beginning and it's almost cut off.

I wasn't even sure where they'd heard the term best friends before. Ty thinks it was probably from watching Barney. I'm just happy they're actually learning something from the show and not losing brain cells which is Ty's theory of what happens when they watch Barney.

And to prove they are best friends, here they are sharing a toy at the park. Pretty good teamwork for 21 months old.

Nursemaid's Elbow

This strangely-named injury landed Grace and me at Urgent Care yesterday for 2+ hours. Here's a definition from Wikipedia:

a dislocation of the elbow joint caused by a sudden pull on the extended pronated arm, such as by an adult tugging on an uncooperative child.

I was the adult in the above scenario but I'd like to say it was Grace, the uncooperative child that was doing the tugging. We were walking to the car and she didn't want to hold my hand. She was in instant pain and was able to tell me exactly where she was hurting. "I hurt elbow," she said. It took the doctor three attempts to get the ligament back in place. Once it was fixed, she was immediately back to her active, happy self.

Only problem is this has a very high rate of reoccurrence. So no swinging Grace by the arms anytime soon...

Signature Phrases

The girls are talking up a storm lately. Ty pointed out last night that we can actually have conversations with them now. They each have a few phrases or sentences they use very often.

Grace likes to say, "Oh my gosh, ________." Fill in the blank with whatever would be exciting to a 20 month old. For example, "Oh my gosh, it's a park." Or, "Oh my gosh, look at the kids." Ty claims she picked up the phrase from me but I'm not convinced. She also says, "How cute!" when something catches her eye as we're shopping at Target or some other store.

Lily often (like 50+ times a day) says, "I need help." Ty taught the girls to say that months ago instead of whining and grunting when they needed help with something. Often it comes out as, "I need help guys." She also says, "No thank you so much," when I offer her something she doesn't want.

Here are some pictures Ty's sister Tina took last weekend when we were in San Luis Obispo. Thanks to Tina and her knack for recording memories, someday we'll have crystal clear photos and funny DVDs to look back on.
